Anesthesia Consultants of Indianapolis (ACI) has two chronic pain specialists who perform interventional procedures for patients struggling with chronic pain that is not responding to conservative management. Anesthesiologists are uniquely qualified in this area of medicine with their knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, and abilities to perform neural blockade. Both of ACIs chronic pain specialists have completed anesthesiology residencies as well as fellowships in pain medicine and are board certified in anesthesiology with subspeciality certification in pain management. This is the only pain credential recognized by the American board of medical specialties. The spectrum of care includes primarily spinal pain, but also other types of pain such as osteoarthritis pain and nerve pain.
Dr. Rajiv Tewari and Dr. Chetan Shukla, the co chairs of the chronic pain section, each have more than 20 years of experience performing interventional pain procedures. Both have an outstanding track record of providing elite care to complex patients that are in need of relief. Examples of procedures that are provided include, but are not limited to, epidural steroid injections, nerve root injections, facet joint injections, sacroiliac joint injections, sympathetic blocks, radiofrequency ablations for joint pain, and spinal cord stimulator trials. Both doctors take great pride in evaluating each patient they see to ensure that procedures are indicated and that the patients are receiving the best procedure to manage their chronic pain. The doctors use fluoroscopy and ultrasound for the majority of their procedures to ensure accuracy and quality. Patient care is provided at multiple locations across the city to provide convenient access.
