Anesthesiologists are physicians with special training in medical and interventional pain management. ACI’s section on Acute Pain Management includes board certified physicians who have spent extra time and training on techniques designed to improve your comfort before, during and after surgery.
Our section includes 24 hour a day, seven days per week acute pain service coverage at our two largest hospitals, IU Methodist Hospital and IU North Hospital.
We also have a dedicated team of physicians that provide regional anesthesia at our other hospitals and surgery centers. ACI physicians performed over 10,000 nerve blocks last year to optimize patient comfort and outcomes.

In addition to our perioperative services, ACI physicians are involved in the development of pain management protocols within our hospitals and in association with individual surgical colleagues. We provide for outpatient management of perineural catheters. We have also developed a dedicated block area within Methodist Hospital where the majority of our pain management procedures can be performed comfortably under light sedation. In accordance with our staffing the largest trauma center in the state, ACI also offers round the clock consultation for the management of acute and traumatic pain. Our physicians are actively involved in education and training of other physicians and nursing staff.
